Aggregate Testing

Absolute Viscosity:

This test measures the resistance of bitumen to flow under specified conditions. It indicates the bitumen’s stiffness and its performance under traffic loads.
Test Method: IS: 1206 (Part 2) - 1978

Ductility:

Ductility determines the extent to which bitumen can be stretched before breaking, reflecting its ability to withstand temperature variations without cracking.
Test Method: IS: 1208 - 1978

Kinematic Viscosity:

This measures the time it takes for bitumen to flow under gravity, helping assess its workability and performance in paving applications.
Test Method: IS: 1206 (Part 3) - 1978

Loss on Heating:

This test evaluates the volatility of bitumen by measuring the loss in weight when heated. Excessive loss indicates potential hardening during mixing.
Test Method: IS: 1212 - 1978

Penetration:

Penetration measures the hardness or softness of bitumen by the depth a standard needle penetrates under specified conditions.
Test Method: IS: 1203 - 1978

Softening Point:

This test determines the temperature at which bitumen softens. It is critical for understanding the behavior of bitumen in hot climates.
Test Method: IS: 1205 - 1978

Specific Gravity:

Specific gravity indicates the density of bitumen relative to water, which is essential for volumetric mix design in asphalt pavement construction.
Test Method: IS: 1202 - 1978

Binder Content:

Binder content is the percentage of bitumen in the mix. Accurate measurement is vital for durable, high-performance bituminous pavements.
Test Method: IS: 13826 - 1993 (For Extraction using Centrifuge Method)

Density:

Density of bituminous mix is measured to assess compaction and air voids, which influence pavement strength and durability.
Test Method: IS: 1201 - 1978

Flow Test:

Flow value indicates the deformation a bituminous sample undergoes under loading. It is measured during Marshall testing.
Test Method: ASTM D6927 / IS: 1201–1220 (Marshall Method)

Marshall Stability:

Marshall Stability measures the maximum load a compacted bitumen sample can withstand before failure. It is crucial for pavement design.
Test Method: ASTM D6927 / IS: 1201–1220 (Marshall Method)
